Stout shrublets up to 35cm and up to 60cm across, occasionally straggly when growing in shrubby vegetation. Leaves thickest in the middle, obtuse, smooth with many small bladder cells; flowers red to orange, also yellow; staminodes black. Fruits 5-locular.
